Vieques, Hands Up explores the music tradition of calypso and steelpan in the small municipality of Vieques, Puerto Rico. These musical rhythms have travelled up from Trinidad and Tobago to Puerto Rico, demonstrating that borders among the Caribbean islands are fluid and dynamic.

Nadjah Ríos-Villarini
Nadjah Ríos-Villarini is an Assistant Professor at the College of General Studies, University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. She is the co-director of the Diaspora Project, a non-profit organisation devoted to studying the Puerto Rican Diaspora in the US Virgin Islands. Vieques, Hands Up (2014) is the first audiovisual investigation she has directed and produced. Currently she is conducting research to include the connections between Vieques, St. Thomas, St. Croix and Trinidad.
